Have you ever been out on a European tour with your family, attempting to take a quick group portrait one day, photograph the entire Eiffel Tower the next day, inside of the vast Colosseum the day after that, and then the interior details of the Basilica? The Tamron 28-300mm F/3.5-6.3 Di VC PZD lens’ versatility, covering from a wide angle at 28mm to a portrait length from 50-135mm, and telephoto at 300mm, it’s ideal for the full frame user in everyday situations and travel. A quality that is vital to this lens is the built in VC, Vibration Compensation, system. There are often times situations at long distances and at lower shutter speeds that camera shake can ruin an image. With an optical magnification of 10.7 times at its most telephoto point, the VC can be crucial to getting the image sharp while you’re trying to hold your camera steady. Accessing those extra stops of light, will also come in handy. Think of when you are on the go without a tripod and still trying to make your images creative and stand out from those common vacation photos. As an example, you will see the image below that was actually shot in bright sun on the beach, handheld with a 10 stop ND (Neutral Density) filter, allowing me to slow my shutter speed down to 1/15.

There are quite a few other specs that make this lens stand out as an important lens for your kit. For starters, if macro photography is important to you, the minimum focusing distance of 19.3” lets you get up close and personal to your subjects. Although it does not give you a 1:1 ratio, it is capable of a 1:3.5 ratio, most of the time getting an entire flower to fill your frame. Every lens in your kit has a job to accomplish, luckily this can be the lens that accomplishes many of those jobs without ever having to switch it out.
